It is anticipated that the North Carolina Manufacturing Extension Partnership (NCMEP) will receive federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and. Economic Security Act (CARES) funding to expand services and help manufacturers respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. In the coming weeks, NCMEP will contact manufacturers across the state to gather information on the impact of COVID-19 on operations, workforce, sales and needs.

Phil Mintz, director of NCMEP, said, “As we begin speaking with manufacturing companies in the near future, we’ll identify their technical assistance needs resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.” NCMEP will use the anticipated CARES funding to provide services to a limited number of manufacturers at no cost to them.

Mintz said, “Potential solutions include those that directly support a manufacturer’s ability to respond to the coronavirus through the accelerated production of Personal Protective Equipment and solutions that support a manufacturer’s ability to improve their competitiveness as the marketplace adapts to the coronavirus disruption.”

“Manufacturing is more important than ever during these challenging times. We’re fortunate to have the opportunity to help manufacturers adopt proven business solutions and keep their workforce safe,” said Mintz.

NCMEP anticipates it will receive the CARES Act funding because of its longstanding relationship with the NIST Manufacturing Extension Partnership. NC State University Industry Expansion Solutions (IES) has hosted North Carolina’s MEP since 1995.
