The North Carolina Manufacturing Extension Partnership (NCMEP) provides manufacturing extension services that enhance the productivity, innovative capacity and technological performance of US-based manufacturing firms. It also works to strengthen the global competitiveness of small- and medium-sized manufacturers.
NCMEP links its manufacturing partners to a network of national expertise and suppliers, creating an innovation hub and knowledge base for the state of North Carolina.
As one of the U.S. Commerce Department’s NIST Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) centers, NCMEP helps small- and mid-size manufacturers create and retain jobs, increase profits and save time and money. As a public-private partnership, NIST MEPs deliver a high return on investment to taxpayers. For every dollar of federal investment, MEP clients generate nearly $19 in new sales, which translates into $2.5 billion annually. And for every $2,001 of federal investment, MEP creates or retains one U.S. manufacturing job. Since 1988, MEP has worked with nearly 80,000 U.S. manufacturers, leading to $88 billion in sales and $14 billion in cost savings, and it has helped create more than 729,000 jobs.
NCMEP and its Partners
Launched in 1955, IES first began operating under the NC State University College of Engineering and was the first industrial extension program in the country. In 1995, the North Carolina Manufacturing Extension Partnership (NCMEP) was established as a component of Industry Expansion Solutions.
NCMEP is now administered by Industry Expansion Solutions and is joined by partners from the North Carolina Community College System; NCWorks Customized Training; the Economic Development Partnership of NC; the Polymers Center of Excellence; the Manufacturing Solutions Center; and North Carolina A&T State University.
A Public-Private Operating Alliance
NCMEP is a public-private operating alliance of state supported programs that work together to enhance the performance of the state’s small- to medium-sized manufacturers. Its combined resources and collaboration efforts lead to greater economic growth and job creation in manufacturing.
Participating NCMEP partners leverage public funds and private investments to provide technology-based resources and expertise to improve, promote and connect industry through experts and tools in workplace safety, process optimization, business growth, innovation, sustainability, energy, quality systems and workforce training and development.
